Art Trek for February 6th, 2023

This week’s Art Trek for February, 6th, features five galleries, yes, five. This was a huge Art Trek, indeed.

Come along with us.

Sparks Heritage Museum

Our first stop was the Sparks Museum’s upper gallery, where the Reno Portrait Society has “Passage of Women’s Suffrage of 1920” exhibit. This exhibit is in partnership with the Nevada Women’s History Project and features local painters.

This show will be on display through April 29th, so you have time to check out the portraits from these local artists. And while you are there, be sure to check out the Sparks Museum as well.

Pitch Black Printing

Dale Slingland has his impromptu show “Too stupid for storage” at Pitch Black Printing. I always enjoy Slingland’s work, and while you are at Pitch Black, be sure to talk to Maurice Harold about your fine art printing needs.

Here are some photos of Slingland’s work on display.

Sierra Arts Riverside Gallery

Sierra Arts has a wide variety of art this month.

In the main gallery, there is art by Rob Garrett and Bobby Lee.

Garrett’s work is assemblages or sculptures from found objects like kitchen knives and old car parts. There is a continuity to Garrett’s work that is sometimes missing in assemblage art.

Lee examines rock formations in landscapes in a show he calls Emplacement/Displacement. Looking at Lee’s photographs made me wonder how often we walk by these rock formations without even noticing.

In the Sierra Arts Annex is an Exhibit by Jack Taylor & Evyn Games. This work caught my eye combining Iron, Clay, and Rock to create powerful pieces you should see.

The artist reception will be on February 18th from 12 to 4 p.m. and will be on exhibit through March 3rd.

Savage Mystic Gallery

The Savage Mystic Gallery is celebrating the art of Joe C Rock

If you did not already know, Joe C Rock is a local artist with quite a portfolio. Rock’s art ranges from large public murals, to urban-inspired paintings, and tattoo art.

Go check out Rock’s show and be sure to set aside some time to experience the depth of his talent fully.

Nevada Fine Arts’ NFA Gallery

Cupids Curse is on tap for this month at the NFA Gallery

This show is a whimsical look at Valentine’s Day and how love comes into art, with many artist work on display. Michelle and I enjoyed the show, and we are sure you will as well.

Be sure to check out Nevada Fine Arts and the vast selection of art supplies while you are there.

The Depot Gallery

Seth McCorkle’s exhibit “Laments” is what you will see at The Depot Gallery. Unfortunately, the show was not yet fully installed when we were there, so we will go back to take a deeper look. From what we did see, we were very intrigued by McCorkle’s modern post-apocalyptic paintings.
