DESCRIPTION:In celebration of National Poetry Month\, join Nevada Humanities and the Bristlecone General Store in Baker for a weekend of creativity and connection! Led by Katie Karnehm-Esh\, Humanities Center Coordinator at Great Basin College\, these workshops embrace Nevada’s alluring landscape and your creative powers. \nOn Saturday\, April 25\, 2026\, from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm\, meet at the Bristlecone General Store in Baker. Participants will then drive to the Pole Canyon Trailhead in Great Basin National Park where Karnehm-Esh will lead a two-mile hike on this easy-moderate trail with low elevation gain. Participants will then return to the trailhead picnic area for a writing session focused on our senses and connection with nature. \nBring a journal\, writing materials\, water\, and snacks. Wear layers of clothing\, sunscreen\, and a hat. \nReserve your spot by calling the Stargazer Inn: 775-234-7323 \nThis program is sponsored by a grant from White Pine County Tourism & Recreation in partnership with White Pine Main Street\, the Humanities Center at Great Basin College\, and Nevada Humanities. DESCRIPTION:Join us for a one-of-a-kind evening inside the hangar of the Commemorative Air Force High Sierra Squadron. \nLed by local artist and HSS Development Officer Blair Latos\, you’ll be guided step-by-step in painting a picture of the iconic 1941 N3N “Yellow Peril” Navy biplane. \nIncluded:\n– Step-by-step instruction to create an original painting with acrylic paint\n– Canvas size ranges from 5X7 inches to 18X24 inches and various wood surfaces to choose from\n– A unique setting inside an active aviation hangar\, and the N3N on display\n– A creative\, social atmosphere\n– A meaningful way to contribute to preserving living history \nThe Commemorative Air Force (CAF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving and flying historic military aircraft. The High Sierra Squadron\, based in Reno\, Nevada\, maintains aircraft\, educates the public\, and offers opportunities for people to experience aviation history.
