SUMMARY:Artist In Action
DESCRIPTION:Stop by Darkshot Coffee\, grab a hot or cold beverage\, check out local art\, and meet the Artist In Action:\n\nGalina Milton\n\nFriday\, September 26\, 2025\, from 9 am-12 pm\n\nLocated at:Darkshot CoffeeIn the lobby\, 300 E. 2nd St.\, #101Reno\, NV 89501\n\nAbout The Artist:Galina V Milton\, an evocative artist painting the pulsating rhythms of everyday life\, began her journey in the city of Lugansk\, Ukraine\, during the golden era of the Soviet Union. Despite the lack of formal art education in her homeland\, she was immersed in Russian Art History as part of her broader academic journey in History. This rich cultural backdrop laid the foundation for her artistic sensibilities.\nGrowing up in the culturally vibrant city of Lugansk\, Galina spent significant periods of her childhood amid the artistic splendor of vacation destinations such as Saint Petersburg in Russia and Kiev in Ukraine. These early years were steeped in creativity\, amplified by her grandfather\, a sculptor\, whose influence undoubtedly nudged her towards the arts. Although the exact moment she resolved to pursue art isn’t etched in memory\, Galina recalls always having a sketchbook at hand. However\, it was a transformative experience\, viewing masterpieces by titans like Titian\, Michelangelo\, and the French Impressionists in Europe’s eminent museums\, that cemented her decision to commit to oil painting as her primary medium.\nGalina’s educational pursuit led her to the prestigious Master of Fine Arts program\, specializing in Figurative Painting\, from which she graduated in 2007. To further hone her skills\, she attended numerous workshops across the Western United States\, learning from celebrated artists such as Anthony Rider\, David Laffel\, Ray Roberts\, Ned Mueller\, Houlihan Liu\, and Dan Gerhart. In 2006\, she expanded her artistic horizons with a summer program at the Saint Petersburg Art Academy\, delving deeper into the rich veins of Russian artistic tradition.\nThe world around Galina\, with all its beauty\, emotions\, and colors\, serves as the muse for her work. She is drawn to portraying people within their daily lives\, capturing the subtle and profound moments that define them. Working primarily from photo references and sketches in her studio\, Galina ensures the authenticity of her paintings by attending Life Drawing sessions. This commitment to realism\, coupled with her love for vibrant colors and soft-edged objects contrasted with defining shadows\, evolves her style into what she believes closely aligns with Russian Impressionism.\nWhat sets Galina’s art apart is the personal touch she imbues in each piece. The emotions and stories she conveys transcend cultural boundaries\, making her work universally resonant. Reflecting on her most rewarding projects\, she often finds that her latest painting holds a particular charm\, embodying the growth and refinement of her technique.\nA member of the prestigious Oil Painters of America\, Galina has showcased her works in places such as the Artist Co-op gallery and has been recognized with numerous awards for her contributions to art. Furthering her impact\, she teaches part-time at Truckee Meadows Community College\, Lake Tahoe Community College\, and Arts For All Nevada in Reno\, nurturing the next generation of artists.\nGalina’s art is a testament to her values\, striving to preserve and highlight the beauty and emotion in everyday life. This endeavor reflects her belief in the vital role art plays in society—an eternal vessel capturing the essence of human experience. Her goal is to continue exploring and sharing this beauty with the world\, ensuring that her artistic vision remains as vivid and captivating as ever.

She began drawing and painting as a preschooler. Although the materials were put on the back shelf\, Elieen continued to return to her art throughout her life. After Eileen’s family grew\, she reawakened the artist within by taking numerous workshops and immersion in the artist community in Northern Nevada. She retired from the banking industry in 2003 and never looked back! She is a longtime member of the Sierra Watercolor Society and the Latimer Art Club (established in 1921.) In 2021 she organized four art shows celebrating the club’s 100th anniversary. Eileen is also a member of the Artists Co-operative of Reno since 2010. Eileen also loves to paint while traveling. As a teacher of basic to intermediate watercolor\, she believes that each of us was born with creative abilities. DESCRIPTION:Stop by Darkshot Coffee\, grab a hot or cold beverage\, check out local art\,\nand meet the Artist In Action:\n\nTricia Poulos Leonard\n\nWednesday\, June 18th\, 2025 from 9am-12pm\n\nLocated at:Darkshot CoffeeIn the lobby\, 300 E. 2nd St\, #101Reno\, NV 89501\n\nAbout The Artist:As a painter\, I find inspiration in the world around me. I employ a personal vocabulary of marks and colors that reflects the natural world. My work varies from representational to abstract\, and I am continually moving between the two styles. I tend to work in series\, either with the materials I use or the exploration of imagery. Every painting is an experiment to me. My materials\, techniques\, and interests all direct me to a place that craves a connection to the world we live in.

SUMMARY:Artist In Action
DESCRIPTION:Stop by Darkshot Coffee\, grab a hot or cold beverage\, check out local art\, and meet the Artist In Action:\n\nEileen Fuller\n\nTuesday\, May 27th\, 2025 from 9am-12pm\n\nLocated at:Darkshot CoffeeIn the lobby\, 300 E. 2nd St.\, #101Reno\, NV 89501\n\nAbout The Artist:Eileen Fuller is principally a watercolor artist\, with recent forays into pastels and other multiple-media art. She began drawing and painting as a preschooler. Although the materials were put on the back shelf\, Eileen continued to return to her art throughout her life.\nAfter Eileen’s family grew\, she reawakened the artist within by taking numerous workshops and immersion in the artist community in Northern Nevada. She retired from the banking industry in 2003 and never looked back! She is a longtime member of the Sierra Watercolor Society and the Latimer Art Club (established in 1921). In 2021\, she organized four art shows celebrating the club’s 100th anniversary. Eileen is also a member of the Artists Co-operative of Reno since 2010. She is continuing a 3-year term as its president.\nLandscapes are her favorite subject. And with the variety of scenery in the surrounding area\, there is no shortage of places she likes to paint on site or photograph for incorporation into works to be finished in her studio. Eileen also loves to paint while traveling.\nAs a teacher of basic to intermediate watercolor\, she believes that each of us was born with creative abilities. These abilities may be dormant\, but can be brought out if we are willing to make the effort.

SUMMARY:Pride and Prejudice
DESCRIPTION:This isn’t your grandmother’s Austen! Bold\, surprising\, boisterous\, and timely\, this P&P for a new era explores the absurdities and thrills of finding your perfect (or imperfect) match in life. The outspoken Lizzy Bennet is determined to never marry\, despite mounting pressure from society. But can she resist love\, especially when that vaguely handsome\, mildly amusing\, and impossibly aggravating Mr. Darcy keeps popping up at every turn?! Literature’s greatest tale of latent love has never felt so theatrical\, or so full of life as it does in this effervescent adaptation. Because what turns us into greater fools…than the high-stakes game of love?

SUMMARY:Humanities at Play: Votes for Women with Sarah Keyes
DESCRIPTION:Passed by Congress on June 4\, 1919\, and ratified on August 18\, 1920\, the 19th amendment legally granted women the right to vote in the United States. But achieving this milestone took more than seven decades of progress and protest; the American West in particular was crucial to organizers in the women’s suffrage movement. As part of our celebration of Women’s History Month in March\, learn more about women’s suffrage and this period in American history from historian Sarah Keyes (University of Nevada\, Reno) at The Glass Die on Wednesday\, March 12 from 6 to 8 pm. At this Humanities at Play in-person event\, Keyes will first share her work and research on the study of suffrage in the U.S. West before audience members play the board game Votes for Women (Fort Circle Games\, 2022) \nVotes for Women invites its players to join the suffrage movement\, organize support\, and campaign for victory across the 48 states that were called to ratify the 19th Amendment in 1919-1920. The game’s artwork is inspired by the classic designs used by suffragists themselves\, and features period art\, portraiture\, and historic documents. Campaigners move across the map to distribute political capital with a roll of the dice that will determine whether each state votes to ratify the amendment or opposes the Vote after three eras of play. Dig deeper into the history and maneuver through the critical choices that suffragists faced for a chance to guarantee equal franchise for all and win!
