SUMMARY:Artist In Action
DESCRIPTION:Stop by Darkshot Coffee\, grab a hot or cold beverage\, check out local art\, and meet the Artist In Action: \nTricia Poulos Leonard \nThursday\, March 27\, 2026\, from 9 am-12 pm \nLocated at:\nDarkshot Coffee\nIn the lobby\, 300 E. 2nd St.\, #101\nReno\, NV 89501 \nAbout The Artist: \nAs a painter\, I find inspiration in the world around me. I employ a personal vocabulary of marks and colors that reflects the natural world. My work varies from representational to abstract\, and I am continually moving between the two styles. I tend to work in series\, either with the materials I use or the exploration of imagery. Every painting is an experiment to me. My materials\, techniques\, and interests all direct me to a place that craves a connection to the world we live in. \n#abstractartist #artistinaction #darkshotcoffee

SUMMARY:Artist In Action
DESCRIPTION:Stop by Darkshot Coffee\, grab a hot or cold beverage\, check out local art provided by the Artist Co-op Gallery of Reno\, and meet the Artist In Action:\n\nGalina Milton\n\nWednesday\, May 20th\, 2026\, from 9 am-12 pm\n\nLocated at:Darkshot CoffeeIn the lobby\, 300 E. 2nd St.\, #101Reno\, NV 89501\n\nAbout The Artist:I have dedicated the last 25 years of my life to painting\, and for the past seventeen years\, I’ve had the privilege of sharing my passion through teaching\, both privately and in college settings. There’s something profoundly inspiring about a blank canvas—it holds the promise of a world waiting to be created\, and I strive to instill this belief in my students as well.\nBorn in Lugansk\, Ukraine\, during the challenging times of the Soviet Union\, my path into the arts was not conventional. Lacking formal art education\, I found solace and richness in Russian Art History during my studies at the University of Ukraine. Growing up in an artistic family\, with my grandfather as a sound sculptor\, it wasn’t until later in life that I truly discovered my passion for art.\nIn the fall of 2004\, I took a significant step in my journey by enrolling in the Academy of Art University in San Francisco to pursue my Master’s degree. A transformative summer in 2006 at the esteemed Repin Academy in Saint Petersburg\, Russia was a turning point for me\, where I had the honor of studying under the guidance of Ivan Vituk and Konstantin Grachev. Being surrounded by the masterpieces within the Academy’s Museum and learning from talented Russian teachers broadened my understanding and appreciation of art in ways I never anticipated. I graduated with my Master’s in Fine Art from the Academy of Art in San Francisco\, focusing on capturing the essence of people\, mostly through studies from life.\nToday\, my artistic style blends impressionism and realism\, and I recognize that it may continue to evolve. Nevertheless\, I hold steadfast to the fundamental principles of painting—drawing\, composition\, values\, temperature\, light in color\, and edges—as they will always be my guiding stars. My website beautifully chronicles this heartfelt journey\, showcasing the images that reflect my growth and experiences.www.galinamilton.com.

SUMMARY:Artist In Action
DESCRIPTION:Stop by Darkshot Coffee\, grab a hot or cold beverage\, check out local art provided by the Artist Co-op Gallery of Reno\, and meet the Artist In Action:\n\nTerrye Kocher\n\nTuesday\, June 23rd\, 2026\, from 9 am-12 pm\n\nLocated at:Darkshot CoffeeIn the lobby\, 300 E. 2nd St.\, #101Reno\, NV 89501\n\nAbout The Artist:After a career in high-tech\, I now have the luxury to focus on my creative side. I like to explore different mediums and techniques\, but I find making “dots” images\, e-parts collages\, quilt collages\, and jewelry the most rewarding.\nBefore retiring\, I spent 3 months working in Canberra\, the Australian capital. Visiting museums and galleries\, I was impressed by the works done by the Australian Aboriginals. After returning to Nevada\, I decided to experiment with the techniques used by these artists. Hence\, my “dots” artwork. For my subject matter\, I like to look to Nevada images for inspiration. For years\, I have been deconstructing electronic devices: computers\, TVs\, printers – if a device has a circuit board\, I will take it apart. I then use the parts from these devices to construct e-parts collages.\nFor as long as I can remember\, I have been fascinated by jigsaw puzzles. I guess I have a need to turn the chaos of all the small pieces into the cohesive whole of the finished puzzle. So\, too\, I have a fascination with quilts\, mosaics\, and stained glass. They share the characteristic of many individual pieces combined to create a work of art. By doing quilt collages\, I am able to concentrate on the design aspects of creating a quilt\, focusing on the colors and the patterns\, without the tedium of actually cutting\, sewing\, and quilting. I construct my quilt collages primarily from paper\, from many sources\, such as advertising flyers\, calendars\, cards\, catalogs\, and magazines. Sometimes I design “fabric” on my computer\, which I then print on paper. And\, occasionally\, I will take a marker or colored pencil in hand to augment a piece.

She began drawing and painting as a preschooler. Although the materials were put on the back shelf\, Elieen continued to return to her art throughout her life. After Eileen’s family grew\, she reawakened the artist within by taking numerous workshops and immersion in the artist community in Northern Nevada. She retired from the banking industry in 2003 and never looked back! She is a longtime member of the Sierra Watercolor Society and the Latimer Art Club (established in 1921.) In 2021 she organized four art shows celebrating the club’s 100th anniversary. Eileen is also a member of the Artists Co-operative of Reno since 2010. She is continuing a 3-year term as its president.Landscapes are her favorite subject. And with the variety of scenery in the surrounding area\, there is no shortage of places she likes to paint on site or photograph for incorporation into works to be finished in her studio. Eileen also loves to paint while traveling. As a teacher of basic to intermediate watercolor\, she believes that each of us was born with creative abilities. These abilities may be dormant but can be brought out if we are willing to make the effort.
