SUMMARY:“Love Governs Form" by 2025 Reno City Artist Jordyn Rae Owens at Metro Gallery at Reno City Hall
DESCRIPTION:It’s the process of not trusting and falling into doubt that feels like a slow death.\nWith flying\,\nthere is an inner knowing\,\na guiding light.\nThere is no fear\, no doubt\, because there is only love.\nLove governs form.\nWhat if I learned to find love in the unknown\, to find love within the process of uncertainty?\nWhat if falling was actually flying – it just takes a little longer to discover that form. \nCity of Reno City Hall\nMetro Gallery\nMay 19 – July 11\nReception\, Wednesday\, June 18\, from 5 – 7 p.m. \nReno\, NV – The Metro Gallery at Reno City Hall is hosting “Love Governs Form\,” a solo exhibition by 2025 Reno City Artist Jordyn Rae Owens. The show runs from May 19 – July 11\, 2025\, showcasing fine art photography and collage by Owens that offers a deeply personal and transformative reflection of her experience as a mixed race Black and Filipino woman born and raised in Reno. Her art practice is a contemplative process in which she utilizes photographic mediums to explore the past\, present\, and future self. By exploring her inner world\, her artwork demonstrates the powerful effects of self-reflection and the impact it has on the evolution of identity.\nFormer Reno City Artist Rossitza Todorova describes that Owens’ art “reflect her journey of introspection and identity\, exploring the intersections of race\, place\, and personal history. Jordyn’s ability to convey such narratives through visual mediums makes her a standout artist and a strong representative of the dynamic and diverse culture we are working to build in Reno.” \nOwens won the Award for Excellence in Fine Art Photography at the Reno Tahoe International Art Show in 2022 and 2023 and was a finalist in 2024. She has also been the recipient of the Nevada Arts Council Artist Project Grant. She has previously had solo exhibitions at the Holland Project and North Valley’s Library in addition to numerous group shows. Owens is also a founding member and curator of the collective Of the Sol which provides a platform for artists of color\, fostering dialogue on identity\, belonging\, and social justice through art.\nWebsite: https://jordynowens.art/involution\nInstagram: @innerbloom.__\nThe artist reception will take place on Wednesday\, July 18\, from 5 – 7 p.m. Admission to the exhibition and reception is free and open to the public.\nThe Metro Gallery at Reno City Hall is one of three visual art galleries operated by the City of Reno and open to the public\, free of charge\, Monday-Friday\, 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. The gallery is accessible through City Hall’s ground floor entrance on Virginia Street. SUMMARY:Artist In Action
DESCRIPTION:Stop by Darkshot Coffee\, grab a hot or cold beverage\, check out local art\, and meet the Artist In Action:\n\nEileen Fuller\n\nTuesday\, May 27th\, 2025 from 9am-12pm\n\nLocated at:Darkshot CoffeeIn the lobby\, 300 E. 2nd St.\, #101Reno\, NV 89501\n\nAbout The Artist:Eileen Fuller is principally a watercolor artist\, with recent forays into pastels and other multiple-media art. She began drawing and painting as a preschooler. Although the materials were put on the back shelf\, Eileen continued to return to her art throughout her life.\nAfter Eileen’s family grew\, she reawakened the artist within by taking numerous workshops and immersion in the artist community in Northern Nevada. She retired from the banking industry in 2003 and never looked back! She is a longtime member of the Sierra Watercolor Society and the Latimer Art Club (established in 1921). In 2021\, she organized four art shows celebrating the club’s 100th anniversary. Eileen is also a member of the Artists Co-operative of Reno since 2010. She is continuing a 3-year term as its president.\nLandscapes are her favorite subject. And with the variety of scenery in the surrounding area\, there is no shortage of places she likes to paint on site or photograph for incorporation into works to be finished in her studio. Eileen also loves to paint while traveling.\nAs a teacher of basic to intermediate watercolor\, she believes that each of us was born with creative abilities. These abilities may be dormant\, but can be brought out if we are willing to make the effort.

THE STORY: In this original comedy with a spice of regency parody we visit the village of Brukalton on the day of the society ball following the gender bent and sometimes lonely\, yet always clever siblings of the one time noble and influential Brukalton family under the reign of the bombastic King Chuck as they navigate their strange existence where the loneliest girl in town only wants one thing\, to be remembered for her artistry instead of being being part of Brukalton society. \nWith a wink toward romance\, comedy and ridiculous and fanciful social norms\, it is set during the early 19th century in an alternative world existing in an alternative era of Regency in which no one knows what will happen next\, excepting for the love in the afternoon and the big ball that will prove to the village once and for all that big balls don’t matter. Recommended for ages 14 and up because of thematic things that could be weird to explain in the car on the way home. SUMMARY:Pride and Prejudice
DESCRIPTION:This isn’t your grandmother’s Austen! Bold\, surprising\, boisterous\, and timely\, this P&P for a new era explores the absurdities and thrills of finding your perfect (or imperfect) match in life. The outspoken Lizzy Bennet is determined to never marry\, despite mounting pressure from society. But can she resist love\, especially when that vaguely handsome\, mildly amusing\, and impossibly aggravating Mr. Darcy keeps popping up at every turn?! Literature’s greatest tale of latent love has never felt so theatrical\, or so full of life as it does in this effervescent adaptation. Because what turns us into greater fools…than the high-stakes game of love?
