I employ a personal vocabulary of marks and colors that reflects the natural world. My work varies from representational to abstract\, and I am continually moving between the two styles. I tend to work in series\, either with the materials I use or the exploration of imagery. Every painting is an experiment to me. My materials\, techniques\, and interests all direct me to a place that craves a connection to the world we live in.#abstractartist #artistinaction #darkshotcoffee

SUMMARY:The Producers: A Mel Brook's Musical
DESCRIPTION:How do you create a flop on Broadway? \nIf you’re Mel Brooks\, you start with a scheming con man (Max Bialystock)\, add in a mousy accountant (Leo Bloom)\, then introduce them to a pigeon-loving Nazi and his script for a gloriously offensive musical\, “Springtime for Hitler\,” and finally\, sprinkle in an eager blonde bombshell! It’s a recipe for failure. But in this laugh-out-loud comedy\, unexpected success throws Max and Leo into a downward spiral\, with unexpected consequences. Crazy caricatures and camp spectacle come together to produce a wonderfully tasteless evening of entertainment. The in-your-face humor includes high-kicking stormtroopers\, a flock of pigeons\, hand puppets\, and little old ladies dancing with walkers. It’s sure to be a flop! We mean\, hit! \nBeware: this show is not for the weak of heart\, (or for youth under 16; discretion advised). \nCast List\nMax Bialystock: Ryan Kelly\nLeo Bloom: Ryan Costello\nRoger Debris: Michael Davanzo\nUlla: Zoe McCracken\nFranz Liebkind: Jared Lively\nCarmen Ghia: Aiden Lyramor\nEnsemble: Rachel Anderson\, Noah Boston\, Emzy Burroughs\, Ora Harris\, Denny Hope\, Bryce Hurley\, Glynis Irving\, Noah Jackson\, Angel Kominsky\, Mary Beth Lavender\, Wendy Lyramor\, Kelsy Mato\, Alex Mead\, Jacob Nichols\, Sasha Rodriguez\, Sam Shepherd\, Erin Vashista\, Alyssa von Eberstein\, Trevor Young \nRobert Z Hawkins Amphitheater\nBartley Ranch\, Reno\nAll Shows Start at 7:30 pm\nFriday and Saturday\, August 8th and 9th\nThursday-Sunday\, August 14th-17th\nFriday and Saturday\, August 22nd and 23rd \nPricing\nVIP Reserved: $65.00\nADA Seating : $40.00\nPremium Center: $40.00\nPremium Left: $40.00\nPremium Right: $40.00\nADA Row H right: $30.00\nADA Row H right: $30.00\nGallery – Center: $30.00\nGallery Left: $30.00\nGallery Right: $30.00\nUpper Gallery Center: $25.00\nUpper Gallery Left: $25.00\nUpper Gallery Right: $25.00\nLawn – General Admission : $20.00\nLawn -General Admission : $20.00\nLawn seating – General Admission : $20.00 \nRUNNING TIME\n2.25 hours with 15 minute intermission

SUMMARY:Your Skin is a Kaleidoscope Curated by City Artist\, Jordyn Rae Owens & Of the Sol Collective
DESCRIPTION:July 21- September 12\, 2025 Reception: Thursday\, August 14th from 5 pm-7 pm \nYour Skin is a Kaleidoscope invites local Black\, Indigenous\, and Artists of Color to reflect on\nthe breadth of their stories and experiences\, whether lived or ancestral\, beautiful or\npainful\, and respond to the idea with a piece of art that communicates insights and\nperspectives that arise from this introspection\n“Our skin carries the scars and bruises of our past. But\, our skin is abundant. It has the\npower to regenerate and repair old wounds. People often mistake our skin for being\nmonotone\, different shades of one color. But\, if you pay enough attention\, you’ll see how\nthe light dances and refracts off our skin\, like radiant blessings from our ancestors. And if\nyou look closely\, for every red\, violet\, blue\, green\, or yellow hue\, there is a breadth of\nstories\, histories\, and lessons transmuted from the past to help us create brighter\ntomorrows.”\n“Of the Sol” is a collective of Black\, Indigenous\, and Artists of Color cultivating an\nintersectional space for all BIPOC artists. The goal of the collective is to foster autonomy\,\nrepresentation\, inclusivity\, equity\, and accessibility for BIPOC artists. It’s a space of\nreclamation and revival\, and we work towards collective action through the media of art.\nLocated on the first floor of City of Reno City Hall\, The Metro Gallery is one of three galleries\noperated by the City of Reno. SUMMARY:Artist In Action
DESCRIPTION:Stop by Darkshot Coffee\, grab a hot or cold beverage\, check out local art\, and meet the Artist In Action:\n\nGalina Milton\n\nFriday\, September 26\, 2025\, from 9 am-12 pm\n\nLocated at:Darkshot CoffeeIn the lobby\, 300 E. 2nd St.\, #101Reno\, NV 89501\n\nAbout The Artist:Galina V Milton\, an evocative artist painting the pulsating rhythms of everyday life\, began her journey in the city of Lugansk\, Ukraine\, during the golden era of the Soviet Union. Despite the lack of formal art education in her homeland\, she was immersed in Russian Art History as part of her broader academic journey in History. This rich cultural backdrop laid the foundation for her artistic sensibilities.\nGrowing up in the culturally vibrant city of Lugansk\, Galina spent significant periods of her childhood amid the artistic splendor of vacation destinations such as Saint Petersburg in Russia and Kiev in Ukraine. These early years were steeped in creativity\, amplified by her grandfather\, a sculptor\, whose influence undoubtedly nudged her towards the arts. Although the exact moment she resolved to pursue art isn’t etched in memory\, Galina recalls always having a sketchbook at hand. However\, it was a transformative experience\, viewing masterpieces by titans like Titian\, Michelangelo\, and the French Impressionists in Europe’s eminent museums\, that cemented her decision to commit to oil painting as her primary medium.\nGalina’s educational pursuit led her to the prestigious Master of Fine Arts program\, specializing in Figurative Painting\, from which she graduated in 2007. To further hone her skills\, she attended numerous workshops across the Western United States\, learning from celebrated artists such as Anthony Rider\, David Laffel\, Ray Roberts\, Ned Mueller\, Houlihan Liu\, and Dan Gerhart. In 2006\, she expanded her artistic horizons with a summer program at the Saint Petersburg Art Academy\, delving deeper into the rich veins of Russian artistic tradition.\nThe world around Galina\, with all its beauty\, emotions\, and colors\, serves as the muse for her work. She is drawn to portraying people within their daily lives\, capturing the subtle and profound moments that define them. Working primarily from photo references and sketches in her studio\, Galina ensures the authenticity of her paintings by attending Life Drawing sessions. This commitment to realism\, coupled with her love for vibrant colors and soft-edged objects contrasted with defining shadows\, evolves her style into what she believes closely aligns with Russian Impressionism.\nWhat sets Galina’s art apart is the personal touch she imbues in each piece. The emotions and stories she conveys transcend cultural boundaries\, making her work universally resonant. Reflecting on her most rewarding projects\, she often finds that her latest painting holds a particular charm\, embodying the growth and refinement of her technique.\nA member of the prestigious Oil Painters of America\, Galina has showcased her works in places such as the Artist Co-op gallery and has been recognized with numerous awards for her contributions to art. Furthering her impact\, she teaches part-time at Truckee Meadows Community College\, Lake Tahoe Community College\, and Arts For All Nevada in Reno\, nurturing the next generation of artists.\nGalina’s art is a testament to her values\, striving to preserve and highlight the beauty and emotion in everyday life. This endeavor reflects her belief in the vital role art plays in society—an eternal vessel capturing the essence of human experience. Her goal is to continue exploring and sharing this beauty with the world\, ensuring that her artistic vision remains as vivid and captivating as ever.

SUMMARY:The Honeycomb Project
DESCRIPTION:The Honeycomb Project\nCity of Reno City Hall\nMetro Gallery\nSeptember 22- November 14\, 2025\nReception: Thursday\, October 2\, 2025 \nThe Honeycomb Project: A metaphor for interconnectedness\, collaboration and strength found within community.\nCandace Garlock is an artist and arts educator working at the Truckee Meadows Community College. She launched the Honeycomb Project in 2024\, inspired by the natural\, yet complex shape and supportive structure of honeycomb. Since its humble start\, the project has grown to a collection of around 900 hexagonal panels\, adorned by over 500 individual artists\, across 14 states.\nAs Garlock sees it\, “at first glance\, a honeycomb may appear to be a simple geometric structure\, but a closer examination unveils its intricate design and remarkable precision. Composed of countless hexagonal cells\, each one functions seamlessly within the whole\, fulfilling specific purposes\, whether it’s storing honey\, providing a safe haven for the queen bee\, or nurturing the brood. This complexity serves as a powerful metaphor for community dynamics\, where individuals unite\, each contributing unique talents\, skills\, and roles that enhance the collective’s well-being and growth. This interconnectedness is built upon relationships\, shared experiences\, and common goals\, forming a robust foundation for resilience and development. The Honeycomb Project embodies these vital connections\, celebrating our ties to one another through our environment and shared spaces.” \nThe images and writings that comprise the Honeycomb Project are published in 6 art catalogs and can also be viewed on the blog: https://honeycomb2025.blogspot.com. \nThe Metro Gallery\, located on the first floor of City of Reno City Hall\, is one of three galleries operated by the City of Reno. An evening of humans being humans: How could it not be entertaining? This show enjoys three performances November 14\, 15 @ 7:30 and a Sunday Matinee on November 16 @ 2 PM. \nBUTTCRACKER NEVERLAND arrives through the proverbial chimney for holiday titillations\, in a most ridiculous Bruka theatre tradition with an all original BÜTTCRACKER NEVERLAND! What began as a parody of The Nutcracker has evolved into a regional cult classic\, offering a different underbelly to the original ballet each year it is performed. The play explores themes of colonialism\, betrayal\, magic\, revenge and forgiveness as Prospero orchestrates events to reclaim his dukedom and achieve justice against those who usurped him. Plays March 6 – 21\, 2026. \nIn celebration of the 250th anniversary of The Declaration Of Independence comes the regional premiere of playwright Heidi Schreck’s boundary-breaking play\, WHAT THE CONSTITUTION MEANS TO ME. This award-winning play breathes new life into our Constitution and imagines how it will shape the next generation of Americans. Fifteen-year-old Heidi earned her college tuition by winning Constitutional debate competitions across the United States. In this hilarious\, hopeful and achingly human new play\, she resurrects her teenage self in order to trace the profound relationship between four generations of women and the founding document that shaped their lives. Directed by Stacy Johnson whose most recent direction was Moon Over Buffalo and stage appearance in The Beauty Queen Of Leenane. Featuring Mary Bennett. Plays April 10 – April 25\, 2026. \nMay of 2026\, takes us from the battlefield to the flames with The Lark written by French dramatist Jean Anouilh\, adapted by Lillian Hellman. We finish the season as we began\, in a seedy nightclub\, as the 1920s draw to a close\, a garish Master of Ceremonies welcomes the audience and assures them they will forget all their troubles at the Cabaret. With the Emcee’s bawdy songs as wry commentary\, Cabaret explores the dark\, heady and tumultuous life of Berlin’s natives and expatriates as Germany slowly yields to the emerging Third Reich.
