SUMMARY:The Secret of NIMH - Presented by C5: Carson City Classic Cinema Collective
DESCRIPTION:Animation didn’t evolve quietly.\nIt rebelled. \nThere was a moment when artists inside the Disney machine decided they wanted more—more danger\, more depth\, more daring storytelling. They walked away from the kingdom and sparked a creative rivalry that would forever reshape animation history. \nJoin us for The Rise of the Rivals\, an electrifying deep dive into the era when polished fairy tales met fast-talking anarchy and shadowy\, emotionally complex storytelling. \nWe begin with A Wild Hare (1940) — the cartoon that officially introduced Bugs Bunny and cemented Warner Bros.’ sharp\, irreverent style as a bold counterpoint to Disney’s sweetness. \nThen experience the haunting masterpiece The Secret of NIMH (1982) — directed by former Disney animator Don Bluth\, who set out to prove that animation could be visually lush\, emotionally intense\, and unapologetically mature. With its gothic atmosphere\, layered themes\, and breathtaking hand-drawn artistry\, NIMH remains one of the most daring animated films ever put on screen. \nThis isn’t just a screening.\nIt’s a cinematic conversation. \nAfter the film\, stay for a guided talk-back exploring: \nThe animators who defected from Disney \nHow rivalry sharpened storytelling \nWhy NIMH still feels bold decades later \nHow rebellion fuels artistic evolution \nIf you love animation history\, creative risk-taking\, or simply seeing gorgeous hand-drawn art on the big screen the way it was meant to be seen—this night is for you. \nGrab your seat.\nEnter the shadows.\nWitness the rebellion that changed animation forever.

SUMMARY:"At the Heart of Nevada: Basin and Range”
DESCRIPTION:Curated By: Julian Kilker\, Checko Salgado\, and Paula Garrett \nFebruary 23rd- April 17th\, 2026 \nReception: Wednesday\, March 4th\, 2026\, 5pm-7pm \nOn the ten-year anniversary of the Basin and Range National Monument\, three friends curated a documentary photography and video exhibit documenting this remote region of Nevada—one located several hours by car north of Las Vegas and Southeast of Reno. The monument features 1\,100 square miles of spectacular undeveloped mountains and valleys in southeastern Nevada\, and its protected status preserves geological and historical features for future generations while continuing to provide access for recreation\, grazing\, and military training. \nThe collaboration behind this exhibit echoes the cooperation among Nevadan volunteers\, artists\, researchers\, locals\, and visitors who enjoy and help protect our state’s wealth. Basin and Range National Monument is the result of an innovative collaboration among multiple stakeholders. At the Heart of Nevada parallels this creation\, focusing on multiple uses of the land and collaborations among these stakeholders. Among the photographs and videos by multiple contributors are representations of geology and history\, ranching\, volunteering\, recreation\, and artistic and military engagement. Its curators\, board members of the non-profit organization Friends of Basin and Range\, help ensure protection of the ecological\, cultural\, historic\, and recreational resources of the Monument area through community engagement\, advocacy\, interpretive and educational programming\, support of academic research\, site stewardship\, and restoration efforts. \nFor more information about the Basin & Range National Monument visit https://www.friendsofbasinandrange.com. \nThe Metro Gallery\, located on the first floor of City of Reno City Hall\, is one of three galleries operated by the City of Reno. DESCRIPTION:Showtimes\nSATURDAY\, MARCH 21: Doors 6:00 PM\, Concert 7:30 PM\nSUNDAY\, MARCH 22: Doors 2:30 PM\,Concert 4:00 PM \nLike a great masterpiece shaped by time and intellect\, the Reno Phil embarks on the pursuit of knowledge\, where music unfolds with curiosity\, discovery\, and profound insight. At the heart of the evening is Nathan Amaral\, the first prize winner of the 2024 Sphinx Competition\, whose artistry illuminates Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto—a work of exquisite elegance and fiery virtuosity\, as if the violin itself is searching for truth in every soaring phrase. The journey begins with Autumn Maria Reed’s Robin’s Eye View\, a vivid and imaginative exploration of the world from above. I employ a personal vocabulary of marks and colors that reflects the natural world. My work varies from representational to abstract\, and I am continually moving between the two styles. I tend to work in series\, either with the materials I use or the exploration of imagery. Every painting is an experiment to me. My materials\, techniques\, and interests all direct me to a place that craves a connection to the world we live in. \n#abstractartist #artistinaction #darkshotcoffee

SUMMARY:Christiana Lysistrata by Vinecia Coleman
DESCRIPTION:Living in medieval times\, Lysistrata hopes to stop an upcoming Crusade battle that the men in her village seem dead set on. After hearing God’s voice\, Lysistrata uses the bible (the very thing the men use to oppress the women) to get all of the women in her village to stop having sex.
