In March of 2024\, Stacey Spain returns to Brüka Theatre after her incredible performance last season in The Beauty Queen Of Leenane\, this time directing THE BOOK OF WILL written by Lauren Gunderson. The action takes place after the death of Shakespeare as his family of theatrical friends scramble to secure his legacy. Amidst the noise and color of Elizabethan London\, The Book Of Will finds an unforgettable true story of love\, loss\, and laughter\, and sheds new light on a man you may think you know. This Grand\, Emotional\, Historical Drama was the winner of the Harold and Mimi Steinberg/American Theatre Critics Association New Play Award in 2018.\nADVISORY: Strong language. \nSHOW TIMES: All Brüka mainstage evening shows begin at 7:30 PM. Matinees begin at 2:00 PM. Doors open 30 minutes before curtain time. The matinee on March 17th is followed by a talkback with the company and audience. She is a two-time winner of the Steinberg/ATCA New Play Award for I and You and The Book of Will\, the winner of the Lanford Wilson Award and a finalist for the Susan Smith Blackburn Prize. She is a playwright\, screenwriter\, musical book writer and children’s author who lives in San Francisco. She graduated from NYU Tisch as a Reynolds Fellow in Social Entrepreneurship. LaurenGunderson.com \nSTACEY SPAIN – DIRECTOR\nStacey Spain has a B.A. in Theater from Boise State University\, where she worked with Phil Atlakson\, Mike Hoffman\, Mark Medoff and Ntozake Shange. She also holds an MFA in Acting from Purdue University where she trained in the Sanford Meisner Acting Method. Acting in over 50 productions favorite roles include Mag in The Beauty Queen of Leenane\, Lady Capulet in Romeo and Juliet\, Diana in Abducting Diana and Cora in Calendar Girls. She has taught at Purdue University\, UNR and TMCC. Spain’s work as a playwright includes: now i lay me down 2 sleep\, Yule Believe\, Crazy Fucking Kincaids\, Queen of Sunshine Mountain\, Killarney Sabbatical\, Street People\, No News\, To Whom Should I Complain? and Up On Deer Creek. Her works have been produced at the San Francisco Fringe Festival\, the Noh Theater of Nygen\, Bruka Theater\, Good Luck Macbeth Theater and Reno Little Theater. Spain directed Good People\, Beckett Undressed\, The Scarlet Letter and Orpheus Descending at Bruka. At the University of Nevada\, Reno she directed Neil LaBute’s Fat Pig\, The HOT L Baltimore and the world premiere of Anne Garcia Romero’s Juanita’s Statue. For Reno Little Theater Spain directed The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee\, Harvey\, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde and Mother Hicks. Live simply\, love deeply\, create passionately.

Many are traditional\, realistic renderings while some are modern abstractions. Each piece is meticulous\, layered\, and beautiful. All the subjects of the works bring to mind the warmth and growth of spring. \nThe Sierra Watercolor Society (SWS) is a non-profit organization with the mission to foster\, sustain\, and increase interest and skills in the art of water-media painting through the sponsorship of meetings\, educational programs\, displays\, and exhibitions. Three-time Grammy Award winner and 2022 Male Vocalist of the Year of the Hawai’i Na Hoku Awards\, Kalani Pe’a is a not-to-be-missed performer. With contagious charisma\, a gorgeous voice\, powerful presence\, and captivating style\, this is a performance to remember. Kalani Pe‘a will perform alongside local hula dancers from Ka Pā Hula ʻO Kawaiolanoelaniokane. With his passion for perpetuating Hawaiian lan-guage and culture\, his music features his original and classic Hawaiian songs alongside his affec-tionate bilingual (Hawaiian/English) arrangements of his R&B favorites – a nod to the western music he grew up with. Kalani Pe’a made his New York debut to a sold-out audience in 2020\, the first Hawaiian artist to perform in Lincoln Center’s American Songbook. Self-described as “Hawaiian contemporary soul”\, Kalani Pe‘a was awarded a prestigious Native Arts & Cultures Foundation Fellowship in 2018 and named an Artist in Business Leadership Fellow 2019 by the First Peoples Fund.
