Hello Artists and Makers,

City of Sparks Arts and Culture Advisory Committee encourages you to enter your artwork into our Last Friday on Victorian Square events to be held on the Last Friday of the months from May to September (8/24 in August) in the historic downtown Sparks.

WHAT is Last Friday on Victorian Square? LF is an endeavor of the City of Sparks Arts and Culture Advisory Committee (ACAC) aimed to bring more people downtown. Our museum, the Sparks Museum and Cultural Center, remains open and free and the train and school house are open with docents for tours. The evening caps off with a free family movie in the museum. This year, we’re adding a limited number of free booths to artists and makers. Artists are individually juried to ensure the highest quality of art. The city has committed a substantial marketing budget to ensure a well-attended event.

If chosen, the artists will be given a free 10 x 10 tent, a 6 -foot table and 2 chairs. All artists must commit to being at the booth the entire time from 4 to 7:30 p.m. No fees or licenses will be required and the artists are responsible for collecting and reporting their own sales tax.

WHEN & WHERE: May 25 (part of Nugget’s Food and Craft Festival in the Nugget), June 29, July 27 (Part of Artown), August 24, September 28
4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. (movie begins at dusk, usually around 8:15 p.m.)

ELIGIBILITY: It is important that all work be of original design and produced and displayed by the artist. No copies or kits will be accepted. Examples of works that will not be accepted are: Buy-sell items, candles, soap, lotions, food, work from patterns not designed by the artist, ceramics made from commercial molds, domestic non-original handcrafts, such as wood hobby crafts, decoupage, and refrigerator decorations. Mediums desired: Pottery, Photography, Painting, Jewelry, Sculpture, Original Fashion/Costume and Drawing.

ENTRY: Each artist will be juried individually. Please submit four photos of recent work with the name, medium, and size of work clearly named and described in the form below. Submissions can be made by emailing photographs and form below to fburge@cityofsparks.us. Entries for first 2 events must be emailed by 3/6/2018. The last 3 events are due 6/5/2018.

JURY PROCEDURE: The selection jury, made up of 5 local artists/volunteers, will choose five participants per month. Photos should be of quality, sufficient enough to show your work at its best and be representative of the work to be displayed. The selection will be made based on the uniqueness and quality of the work. The committee’s decision on the consistency of quality will be final. Any pieces failing to meet quality standards will not be chosen.

INSTALLATION AND DISPLAY: Participants must provide their own display materials and tablecloths. Spaces will be assigned by committee based on the art available. The committee will attempt to honor requests by exhibitors. An exhibition space of 10 x10 foot with room to spread out. If additional space is required, indicate the need on the form.
