Movie Review—Us
By Randy Pelish
Jordan Peele’s second entry into the horror genre is as compelling as his first, Get Out. It is fitting that Universal Pictures, the home of most of the great horror classics of the ‘30s and ‘40s, should be the distributor of Us.
Director, producer, writer Peele understands that the true horror is indeed us.
A perfect California family is swept into a homicidal frenzy whose perpetrators and victims are one and the same. The pathology of the human psyche is at the very core of this film’s characters and is indeed the message.
Blessed with a superstar cast, especially Lupita Nyong’o whom I can describe only as luminous, Peele has once again treated his audience to a nightmare, one that will never end.
Like most great directors Peele creates his own unique world. With Us he joins the great filmmakers of the past. I can only marvel at what his next nightmare will look like. Don’t miss this deeply disturbing work of art.
Us is currently playing at several theaters in the Reno/Sparks area.
