Apex Concerts is proud to partner with the nation’s premier chamber music organization — the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center — for a fun and bold program exploring the transformational time of the early 20th century, an era of tireless innovation and limitless imagination. Whether it is Samuel Coleridge-Taylor diving into both his Sierra Leonean heritage and his use of African-inspired themes or the Venezuelan composer Reynaldo Hahn adopting the drama of the latest Parisian fashion of the 1920s and the language of his adoptive France. Witness the Belgian composer and virtuosic violinist Eugene Ysaÿe reflecting on the playing style of the Romanian violin prodigy George Enescu. The evening culminates with the magnificent Piano Quintet by the Swiss-American Ernest Bloch, whose compositions are often described as reflective of his Jewish heritage, with highly dramatic scores influenced by philosophical, poetic, and religious themes.
