Moon Rocks Sci-Fi Short Film Competition (2026)
| Silver State Storytellers is calling on filmmakers across Northern Nevada and beyond to embark on a cinematic journey beyond the stars with the return of the Moon Rocks 2026 Sci-Fi Short Film Competition.
Kicking off at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 13, this high-energy filmmaking challenge gives participants just two weeks to create an original short science fiction film. At launch, teams will receive three mystery prompts—a line of dialogue, a sound effect, and a prop—which must be incorporated into their films. Completed entries, running 5 to 9 minutes, are due by 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 27. The competition culminates in a public screening and awards ceremony at the Brewery Arts Center Performance Hall on Saturday, June 6, with screenings at 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. “Moon Rocks is all about pushing creative boundaries and bringing filmmakers together to tell bold, imaginative stories,” said Lyric Burt, President & Co-Founder of Silver State Storytellers. “In just two weeks, participants go from idea to premiere, and the results are always inspiring, surprising, and wildly entertaining.” Open to filmmakers of all experience levels, Moon Rocks encourages collaboration, innovation, and creative risk-taking in a supportive and fast-paced environment. Team registration is $25, and screening tickets are available for $15 (2:00 p.m.), $20 (7:00 p.m.), or $25 for both screenings. Filmmakers and community members alike are invited to take part—whether by creating a film or attending the screenings to support local talent.
