Sacred Transformations: The Art of David Best

October 24, 2026March 26, 2028

For more than five decades, David Best (born 1945, San Francisco) has created art that bridges oppositions—darkness and light, intuition and precision, the abject and the spiritual—offering audiences profound experiences of beauty, transformation, and communal meaning. Sacred Transformations: The Art of David Best brings together significant works spanning the full breadth of Best’s career while featuring two newly commissioned installations: a soaring, immersive shrine and temple constructed in the Museum’s two-story Newton and Louise Tarble Gallery. Long recognized as the visionary behind nine of the most iconic temples at Burning Man, in addition to ten temples built in collaboration with communities across the globe, Best has imagined a new shrine and temple concept for the Nevada Museum of Art that will offer a space for contemplation and reflection.
