Reno Stage Scene; “The Lifespan of a Fact” at Bruka Theatre
The Lifespan of a Fact is based on the true story of John D’Agata’s essay “What Happens There.” Jim Fingal is a fact-checker for one of the best magazines in the country and is told by his boss Emily Penrose to fact-check a piece by legendary author John D’Agata. Fingal’s job is challenging as D’Agata has taken many liberties with the facts. The three of them soon find themselves in a room together, coming to grips with just what makes a good story and what the facts have to do with it.

Ken Ludwig’s Baskerville is the telling of the classic Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s who-done-it is simultaneously thrilling and funny with just the right amount of slapstick. There is a mystery surrounding “The Hound of the Baskervilles” Holmes and Watson must unravel this mystery before the family curse condemns its newest heir.

Reno Stage Scene; ‘Twisted,’ at Reno Little Theater
Twisted is a series of one-act plays, playing one night only at Reno Little Theater before opening in New York in early February. As the name implies, the short stories have hard-edged emotional twists to the stories. Stephanie D. Lewis is the playwright for Twisted, and you can see her passion in the stories she has written.

Alton Brown; ‘Beyond The Eats, The Holiday Variant’
As I remembered Alton Brown, images of Good Eats and Iron Chef came to mind. Truthfully I did not follow Alton Brown since those shows. I was surprised that he has a traveling show, and indeed, this intrigued me.
Not sure what to expect, we headed to the Pioneer Center for the Performing Arts to experience Alton Brown’s Beyond The Eats, The Holiday Variant. It looked to be a sold-out house of faithful fans. The theater was full of energy. I felt we were in for something special, and I was not wrong.

Sierra School of Performing Art’s production of “Peter Pan Jr.” is a joyous romp into fantasy and magic seen from the eyes of innocence and brought to life in song. We know the story of Peter Pan and his mischievous fairy sidekick, Tinkerbell.

The Buttcracker is a Reno Theater staple, usually performed every other year to a sell-out crowd. Each year there is a different theme to the story, and this year it is 80s rock music, yes, long hair and leather pants.

“How to Survive Your Family at Christmas” is a new play by Yassi Jahanmir, so new that it has yet to be published. This is quite an honor for Reno Little Theater to be the first to produce this new work.
Loretta Nutt avoids going home for Christmas, feeling no connection to her mom and dad; she wants to avoid them. But try as she might, it seems that the fates are conspiring to bring her home to learn the lessons of “How to Survive Your Family at Christmas.”
Backstage Review: ‘Abraham Lincoln’s Big Gay Dance Party’ at TMCC
“Abraham Lincoln’s Big Gay Dance Party” takes place in Lincoln’s rural Illinois hometown. A fourth-grade Christmas Pageant crosses the line in questioning Lincoln’s sexuality, setting off a chain of events where the townspeople question everything. The play mirrors many community’s struggles in these changing times.
