IYDV Master Class at UNR Listen to the Angels Sing

Every year world-famous Diva Dolora Zajick brings her Institute for Young Dramatic Voices (IYDV) in conjunction with the Wagner Institute to UNR for an intensive 3-week training of those young dramatic voices. They gave us a peek at what they do Saturday, July 20th. Four instructors from the IYDV and the Wagner Institute spent 4 hours coaching young dramatic voices in the techniques that will bring their voices from incredibly spectacular to perfect. We interviewed teachers and students before the Master Class.

Portrait of Katherine Duer Mackay by John White Alexander at the Lilley Museum

The tabernacle style frame, designed by Stanford White, was primarily created by him for the portrait. Stanford White enjoyed designing frames for his many artist friends. Schooled in the Beaux Arts style his frames often reference architectural elements of the Renaissance. Unlike John Alexander White who was honored by numerous art prizes and died with accolades from both in the press and art world, Stanford White dies in ignominy. He was the most celebrated architect of his day but was shot to death by New York scion Harry K. Thaw. Thaw was furious over Stanford White’s attention to his wife, the beauty, Elizabeth Nesbitt. White had a notorious reputation with women that caused his downfall.

Spectacular ‘Piranesi’ Collection of 135 Etchings Now at the Lilley Museum of Art at UNR

“Giovanni Piranesi” was born in 1720 in the Republic of Venice to a stonemason and master builder father and the sister of a renowned architect and engineer. He began work on the 135 etchings now in the Lilley collection in 1747. His works were known for their bold style, dynamic compositions, high contrast, and drama.
