Backstage Review: ‘Artifice’ at Restless Artists Theater

“Artifice” is a farcical romp centered on art and a cast of characters who love art.

Restless Artists Theater opens its 6th season with the hilarious play “Artifice.”

What is “Artifice”

Payne Showers is a struggling artist, until the reports of his death in an avalanche. Upon his demise, the value of his art increases, and Payne’s estranged wife takes notice. Looking to cash in on her husband’s newly found value, Maggie arranges an action of his work through her gallery.

This sounds fairly straightforward, right?

Well, add into the mix a mobster, a journalist, a long-lost twin (Rain Showers), a sudden snowstorm, and an old house. And trust me, there are more surprises as the play moves on.

I will not tell you the details of “Artifice,” but I can say that you will laugh as the actors have fun portraying these eccentric characters. Michelle and I had a wonderful time seeing this play; we are sure you will too.
