Reno Stage Scene; ‘Brükalton’ at Bruka Theatre

What is Brükalton? That is an excellent question. A cast of Outlandish characters who are led by a delusional leader living in a fantasy world straight out of the deepest recesses of a brilliantly eccentric woman’s brain.

The Story of Brükalton

The story centers around Amacia Brükalton, played by Kelsey Mato, who is trapped in her bedroom, spending her time writing a story and being entertained by the Minister of Loneliness, played by Kell Kittell. The story she is writing, the play within a play, is but one of her obsessions.

The leader, King Chuck, played by Brett Andres, is in a fantasy world all to himself. He has a tendency to randomly change the things around him just because he can. There is a group of people who support him in these endeavors. His supporters are all in with his every whim. This reminds me of someone, but I can’t quite put my tiny hands on it.

There is a Minister of Fashionista who helps King Chuck with his latest idea to celebrate their good fortune with big balls, ahh, parties. As I sit here, writing this, I look at the cast list and remember all the absurdity in Brükalton, as well as the complexity of the story.

Fast-paced and extremely funny, Brükalton is a hilarious escape from today’s troubled times. There are threads in the story of Brükalton that reflect what is happening around us and point out the absurdity in the style of William Shakespeare.

What About the Performances

The performances on stage are a testament to the incredible talent of the actors. They bring this seemingly ludicrous story to life with such energy and commitment that you can’t help but be captivated. With so much happening on stage, these performers don’t miss a beat, keeping the audience engaged and entertained.

The Bottom Line

Brükalton is uproarious, with bits of deeper reflection added like spices to your favorite goulash. Do yourself a favor and see Brükalton for that laugh you need right now.
