Clue

Backstage Review: Clue at Bruka Theater

I enjoyed every minute of “Clue,” and I am sure you will as well. “Clue” is the perfect date night play.

~Review and Photos by Dana Nollsch~

“Clue” is a campy play based on the board game of the same name. As in the game, you have several characters coming together for an evening of mystery and murder. Each character has instructions that include a new identity that they must adapt. Their host (Mr. Body) has many tricks up his sleeve for the evening.

During the evening, the cast of characters explores an old mansion and dissects the murders that inevitably happen. There are many weapons, many secrets, and a high-intensity “Who Done It” that will leave you guessing.

Set in the deserted New England Mansion in the 1950s gives “Clue’ an eerie feeling.. The stage changes from one room to the next as the audience watches; this becomes a show in itself. But, as we have come to expect from Bruka, the intricacy of the stage is nothing less than stellar. There are hidden passageways, moving walls, and a whimsical way that they change from one to the other.

The cast gives a high-energy performance that never lets up. The performances are spot-on with their portrayal of these diverse, multi-faceted characters. As the play moves on, the audience sees layer after layer added to the characters, each revelation revealing secrets hidden in their past. Impressive and energetic performances indeed.

Epilogue

Even if you know the story, you will have a great time seeing “Clue.”
