Moon Over Buffalo

Moon Over Buffalo

Moon Over Buffalo is a delightful slapstick farce with swordplay, running gags, slamming doors, and mistaken identity.

Moon Over Buffalo, The Story

The year is 1953, and the place is Buffalo, New York. Charlotte and George Hay, struggling traveling actors, are performing Cyrano de Bergerac and Private Lives in a repertory theatre. However, times are hard for live theater as there is more interest in the new art form of film.

The Hays have many complications in their lives that bring more drama to their lives than the plays they perform. George has had a dalliance with a young actress. Charlotte has a wealthy lawyer proposing marriage very insistently. Adding to this is their daughter returning with her new fiance, an opportunity in a film, the daughter’s ex-boyfriend working for the theatre company, and more.

Ken Ludwig’s writing incorporated elements from The Three Stooges and Benny Hill. The story will keep you enthralled and never bored.

What About the Performances

The cast is excellent. The action has a lot of rhythm mixed with precise comedic timing. The physical comedy is executed perfectly, much to the audience’s delight.

Mary Bennett and Jim Winkler are a delight to watch as they play off each other. These two actors bring life to the story of Charlotte and George Hay to life with drama and passion.

The cast plays the story for laughs, pulling off the timing and physical comedy The Moon Over Buffalo demands.

Bottom Line

Moon Over Buffalo is a fun, farcical romp filled with the drama of the theatre. The story is a bit expected but indeed entertaining, and you will be delighted with many laughs.
