A few days ago, we set out to find beauty and expression in local art. We found a new 17-foot Bronze Statue of a female Native American Fancy Dancer, a collaborative show from two nurses, some surreal paintings, and a celebration of spring flowers and gardens.

The Pioneer Center for the Performing Arts opened the theater to students during the load-in and set up for the Broadway National Tour of Anastasia. The Pioneer’s staff member Adam Cates (Education & Development Manager), told some of his personal stories of being the choreographer in Anastasia’s first performances. Cates is originally from Reno and had a busy career in New York working with Broadway productions and dance shows. Cates has returned to his hometown to take his role at the Pioneer Center.
Since 1984 the city of Reno has operated a greenhouse, raising trees, ground cover, bushes, and flowers; in fact, they will be growing over 80 different species of plants this year. Ryan Sharrer, The city of Reno’s Horticulturist, opened the greenhouse doors and answered questions for the media to bring awareness of what Reno does to keep the city beautiful.

That Day in Tucson is centered around the story of Daniel Hernandez, Jr; Hernandez was an intern for Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords when she was shot on January 8, 2011. Hernandez was hailed as a hero for saving Congresswoman Giffords’s life, sparking a media frenzy fueled by political gamesmanship. During the play, the audience learns about Hernandez’s backstory and where these events eventually took him.
Men on Boats is the true-ish story of ten explorers on four boats taking on an epic adventure down the Colorado River. John Wesley Powell, a one-armed war veteran, and accomplished explorer, led this group of brave adventurers through the uncharted wilds of the as-of-yet un-named canyon that was to become the Grand Canyon.
Five nuns are on stage at Mt. Saint Helen’s School, performing a “Thank You Program” for their supporters in this zany musical comedy.
Nunsense II will have you singing along with the Nuns and laughing till your face hurts.
